The global success of Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough region in New Zealand has been well documented. Less known is the rising concern in the region over the amount of Sauvignon Blanc being shipped in bulk to bottling facilities around the world and its potential impact on the reputation of Marlborough. This practice has the potential to both literally and metaphorically dilute brand Marlborough and producers in the region have created Appellation Marlborough Wine in a bid to distinguish the quality product they bottle in New Zealand from the lower-value private brand recipients of bulk wine.
